LASVEGUIX Urban - David 2022
Mixed media on cardboard – Torn posters, Posca markers, spray paint
50 x 70 cm American-style box 53 x 73 x 3 cm
The gallery presents a powerful work by LASVEGUIX made on cardboard from torn posters, an emblematic signature of the artist.
From the first glance, the work imposes its presence through its very marked relief effect. The layers of torn paper are not simply glued: they are sculpted.
The irregular tears create a vibrant topography, where each layer tells a visual story.
The cardboard backing accentuates this raw, almost architectural dimension. The material is omnipresent:
frayed edges
thick layers
visible typographic fragments
poster remnants revealed by transparency
At the heart of the work emerges a monumental face with bluish tones, treated almost like an apparition.
The deep blue contrasts with the peripheral chromatic explosion: bright pinks, acid yellows, touches of orange and splashes of white.
This face seems to emerge from the urban chaos. The folds of the paper create natural shadows that reinforce the expression and give an almost sculptural intensity to the upward gaze — a posture evoking elevation, aspiration or contemplation.
The artist combines:
Posca markers for precise highlights, graphic lines and luminous accents
Aerosol spray for halos, splashes and atmospheric vibrations
The white, almost stellar splashes energize the surface and create additional depth. They contrast with the more compact and dense areas of torn paper.
The artist masterfully exploits the principle of the torn poster:
The randomness of the tear becomes a controlled composition.
The typographic fragments visible on the periphery provide a strong urban anchor, reminiscent of city walls where time and the street shape the image.
The irregular outline of the piece reinforces this feeling of a work “taken" from the wall — like a fragment of public space transformed into an art object.
Framed in a 53 x 73 cm American-style frame, the artwork gains depth and elegance. The black frame accentuates the raw material and enhances the reliefs by creating a subtle interplay of shadows.
An intense, textured, vibrant piece —
where the memory of urban walls meets the expressive power of contemporary portraiture.
Guillaume Picart, known as Lasveguix, is a French artist from Seine-Saint-Denis, who began his artistic career as a graffiti artist under the pseudonym of Guix along the Canal de l'Ourcq, when he was teenager. After a break in artistic creation, he returned to his passion in 2022 and is currently working on the production of numerous works in various media, mainly inspired by the influence of pop art.
Lasveguix is directly inspired by Jacques Villeglé and Raymond Hains, and uses photographs of famous faces as well as torn posters to create his paintings. He then covers these supports with graffiti and splashes of paint, which gives life to colorful and powerful works, reminiscent of sections of urban walls torn from the street.
His artistic signature is based on his ability to give relief and volume to his paintings. He cultivates a real taste for the texture and material of torn paper, thus creating an impression of movement, by superimposing successive layers of paper.
