This work explores how memory transforms familiar urban landscapes into abstract symbols. The painting captures the moment when the reality of the city and the flow of the subconscious merge into a single, surreal memory.
The architectural forms, represented by the central buildings in rich reds and ochres, are no longer residential structures. They are monolithic edifices of the subconscious. The vivid red color reflects the intensity and relentlessness of ideas existing in the “eternal now," while the ochre shades symbolize softer memories that gradually fade.
In the foreground, we see a structure resembling cobblestones, laid out with blue-gray and pink blocks. This is a metaphor for a frozen stream of consciousness. It demonstrates how the mind classifies experience, transforming the fluidity of thoughts into a fixed structure.
The three white birds serve as archetypes of consciousness, migrating between different levels of fictional reality. Their simultaneous presence on the ground and on the rooftops symbolizes the free movement of thought between fragmentary memories.
The pastel pink-and-yellow sky creates a sense of timelessness. Soft, diffused light emphasizes the fragility of memory, where real objects (buildings and trees) and fictional images become equivalent. Our consciousness reconstructs a past that never was, attempting to preserve the shifting images of the subconscious as an archival copy on canvas.
