Pink fog, 2025

Natalia Koval

The central element of the composition is the two white birds near the fountain, which symbolize purity and the fragility of the moment. The geometric forms of the architecture in the background, rendered in rich reds and ochres, create a sense of groundedness, while the blurred lines and surreal pink sky immerse the viewer in a state of reverie or sleep.
In this work, I use color as the primary tool for conveying emotional memory. The static nature of the buildings symbolizes the framework of the past. The fluidity of water and the lightness of birds embody the changing nature of consciousness. The brushstrokes at the bottom of the canvas resemble “glitches" on old film, emphasizing the process of the gradual disappearance or distortion of information in our brains.
It is a fixation of a “non-existent" moment that feels just as real as what actually happened. It is an attempt to archive not facts, but sensations that arise at the boundary between reality and imagination.
