Olena Sloboda is a contemporary Ukrainian painter based in Lviv, whose emotionally charged abstract and semi-abstract works explore the relationship between color, memory, atmosphere, and inner perception. Originally trained in fashion design at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, she graduated with distinction and initially built a successful career as a fashion designer before turning fully toward painting - the artistic medium she describes as closest to her inner world and emotional expression.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, Sloboda creates stylized impressions of nature transformed through gesture, texture, and chromatic energy. Rather than depicting landscapes literally, she seeks to convey their emotional resonance and invisible presence through layered surfaces, rhythmic brushwork, and expressive color fields. Her paintings often exist on the threshold between abstraction and recognition, allowing viewers to form their own associations, memories, and psychological responses.
For the artist, color functions not only as a visual element but also as an emotional catalyst capable of influencing mood, memory, and perception. Texture and movement become equally important components of her visual language, creating works that are atmospheric, intuitive, and deeply sensory.
