Description
In Crimson Storm, Olena Sloboda transforms the mountain landscape into a vibrant field of colour and energy. Sweeping passages of crimson, violet and charcoal flow across the canvas, creating a composition that feels alive with movement. Rather than depicting a specific location, the painting conveys the emotional atmosphere of nature in transition.
A defining feature of the work is the luminous opening of cool light that appears within the upper sky. This delicate blue passage introduces a striking contrast to the surrounding warm tones, creating a visual dialogue between intensity and calm. The eye follows a dynamic diagonal movement across the composition, travelling through shifting layers of colour, texture and light.
The artist's distinctive technique contributes significantly to the painting's expressive character. Layers of paint are built, scraped and manipulated to create a richly textured surface where atmospheric effects coexist with sculptural passages of impasto. These tactile elements reinforce the sensation of movement while preserving a strong connection to the physical process of painting.

Presentation
Olena Sloboda is a contemporary Ukrainian painter based in Lviv, whose emotionally charged abstract and semi-abstract works explore the relationship between color, memory, atmosphere, and inner perception. Originally trained in fashion design at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, she graduated with distinction and initially built a successful career as a fashion designer before turning fully toward painting - the artistic medium she describes as closest to her inner world and emotional expression.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, Sloboda creates stylized impressions of nature transformed through gesture, texture, and chromatic energy. Rather than depicting landscapes literally, she seeks to convey their emotional resonance and invisible presence through layered surfaces, rhythmic brushwork, and expressive color fields. Her paintings often exist on the threshold between abstraction and recognition, allowing viewers to form their own associations, memories, and psychological responses.
For the artist, color functions not only as a visual element but also as an emotional catalyst capable of influencing mood, memory, and perception. Texture and movement become equally important components of her visual language, creating works that are atmospheric, intuitive, and deeply sensory. Inspired by nature, silence, and fleeting emotional states, Sloboda describes her paintings as portals between the visible and invisible worlds - spaces where intuition and emotion take precedence over narrative certainty.
Olena Sloboda has participated in exhibitions and art projects in Ukraine and internationally, including exhibitions in Switzerland, Spain, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Estonia, Canada, Poland, and the United States. Her practice continues to evolve through an ongoing exploration of emotional abstraction, color psychology, and the poetic relationship between human perception and the natural world.
