Description
The familiar wandering cat appears once again — this time entering the radical simplicity of Kazimir Malevich's world. Sitting quietly inside a cardboard box against an empty white space, the character becomes both humorous and strangely symbolic, transforming an ordinary domestic moment into a playful reflection on minimalism, perception, and meaning.
At first glance, the scene feels absurdly simple: a black cat doing what cats naturally do best — claiming a box as its own universe. Yet beneath the humor lies a deeper dialogue with Suprematism itself, where form, emptiness, and presence become emotionally charged. The box begins to function almost like a contemporary reinterpretation of the “Black Square" — an ordinary shape transformed into a space for contemplation, projection, and emotional attention.
The cat does not merely visit Malevich's art; it quietly inhabits his philosophy. Surrounded by emptiness, the smallest gestures become significant: the curve of the tail, the softness of fur, the direct yellow stare emerging from darkness. The vast white space surrounding the figure creates stillness and tension, allowing the emotional presence of the character to become the true subject of the work.
Painted in oil on canvas, the piece combines contemporary realism with minimalist restraint and subtle narrative humor. Warm cardboard browns contrast with deep charcoal fur and luminous yellow eyes, creating a focused visual rhythm while preserving the calm austerity of the composition.
Balancing irony with sincerity, the painting reflects a universal human instinct: the need to create emotional refuge and meaning within even the simplest spaces. Through this traveling cat, art history becomes intimate, alive, and unexpectedly tender.

VICTO is an artist working in the realm of ethics and aesthetics, challenging the perception of everyday objects by striving to reveal beauty in all things. Inspired by David Hume's philosophy that beauty is a product of human consciousness, she believes it is crucial to break free from imposed models of perception and experience life in its entirety. Her art is rooted in minimalism and critical posthumanism, focusing on the significance of even the smallest details in the world.
Since 2021, VICTO has been actively participating in exhibitions and art fairs. In 2022, she took part in Miami Art Week and plans to do so again in 2024. In 2024, VICTO was involved in a three-week museum project titled Woman; Balancing Our World at the MoRA Museum in New Jersey, USA.
Having lived in many places, VICTO's travels have greatly influenced her work. She holds a deep affection for London and the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland. Currently residing in New York, she has also opened her own art gallery, with ambitions to participate in renowned fairs such as the Armory Show, NADA, and Untitled in 2025.
