Description

Lush tropical leaves emerge through rich texture and soft light.

This artwork captures the vibrant energy and quiet beauty of a tropical landscape inspired by a walk through a banana grove in Ubud, Bali. Painted in oil on canvas with expressive impasto techniques, the composition transforms tropical foliage into a richly textured celebration of nature, light, and atmosphere.

Rather than focusing on botanical precision, the artist emphasizes sensation and memory. Thick, sculptural layers of oil paint create leaf forms that seem to grow directly from the canvas surface. The lush green foliage emerges against a soft gray and ivory background, creating a striking contrast between vitality and stillness. Every textured stroke preserves the movement of the artist's hand, turning the surface into both an image and an object.

The artwork evokes the experience of standing among tropical plants after rainfall, when leaves appear luminous and alive. Bright lime greens, fresh banana leaf tones, olive greens, and soft natural neutrals create a calming yet energetic atmosphere. The composition balances abstraction and representation, allowing viewers to recognize the tropical subject while remaining immersed in color, texture, and gesture.

There is a refreshing sense of escape within the artwork. It feels like a visual breath of fresh air—a reminder of warm climates, dense vegetation, and moments of quiet connection with nature. Unlike houseplants, this tropical greenery requires absolutely no watering schedule.

Presentation

Mily ART (Emiliia) is a contemporary painter based in Ubud, Indonesia. She graduated in 2015 from the Russian University of the Academy of Education in Moscow with a degree in Fine Arts.

Working primarily in oil with a palette knife, Emiliia creates expressive impasto paintings defined by rich texture, bold color, and dynamic movement. Her visual language is built through thick layers of paint, flowing drips, and energetic strokes that emphasize the physical presence of the medium. The surface of the canvas becomes an active field where color, light, and gesture interact.

Nature is the central source of her inspiration. Flowers and landscapes encountered during her travels transform into emotional landscapes—vivid, blooming compositions that reflect vitality, freedom, and renewal. Her ongoing series Flowing Flowers explores the sensation of awakening life, using intensified hues and sculptural impasto to convey emotional release and movement.

Emiliia often begins with plein air studies or travel photography, later developing these impressions into large-scale works. Rather than reproducing nature, she translates its energy into tactile color fields, allowing paint itself to embody growth and motion.

Her work has been presented in international and national exhibitions, including The Color of Summer at the Ostankino TV Tower (2024) and The Flower Kingdom at the Moscow Union of Artists (2022), where her painting Peonies received First Prize. She held a solo exhibition at IZO Gallery in Moscow in 2019.

Through expressive oil painting and sculptural texture, Emiliia creates contemporary works that celebrate the emotional power of nature—inviting viewers to slow down, feel presence, and reconnect with color as a living force.
