Description
The artist painted this small painting based on life studies of the Vlacherna Monastery on the island of Corfu in Greece in 2013 in the Alla Prima style. This artwork masterfully depicts a serene coastal scene, characterized by its tranquil turquoise waters and the brilliant blue sky above. The composition draws the viewer's eye to a small, charming white building, the monastery of Panagia Vlacherna, which looms large against the horizon. Situated on a tiny islet in the Halkiopoulos lagoon near the Kanoni Peninsula, it is connected to the mainland by a narrow stone causeway. A striking lone tree stands guard beside it, adding a touch of nature's resilience to the human-made structure. The distant boats docked along a pier introduce a sense of peaceful activity. The artist skillfully uses light and shadow to evoke a sense of calm, reflecting the gentle rhythm of coastal life. The use of cool hues and the delicate blending of colors emphasize the crispness of the sea air and the purity of the surroundings. This painting captivates with its simplicity and elegance, inviting the observer to linger and imagine the peaceful lapping of waves against the shore.
