Description
The image unveils an architectural landscape suspended in a gray and neutral void. Stone structures, evoking ancient ruins, are organized in geometric levels. The artist plays with perspectives to create a dreamlike space.
The work is based on a mix of oil and acrylic. The precision of the line emphasizes the grainy texture of the limestone blocks and the rigor of the arches. Some touches of wild vegetation emerge from the cracks, a sign of a time passing slowly.
The figurative approach here resembles surrealism. Objects and buildings become visual enigmas. A scale rests against a wall, suggesting a human presence now absent. The light, soft and diffuse, bathes the scene in a serene atmosphere.
The balance between full and empty structures the composition. The light slabs in the foreground guide the eye towards grated openings and interrupted stairs. This painting from 2021 explores the solitude of forgotten places through a fantastic setting.
Presentation
Born in 1953, Thierry Van Quickenborne is a French painter. He created his first painting at the age of 16. He then studied letters in Hypokhagne, and obtained a barchelors degree in history and sociology and then another barchelors degree in visual arts at la Sorbornne.
Thierry Van Quickenborne's pieces are part of a figurative universe that resembles surrealism. In his artistic language, architecture and objects occupy a preponderant place, and are an enigma and an evidence.
Since 1980, the artist participates in numerous fairs and exhibitions in France and abroad. He has participated in group exhibitions in the United States, Belgium, Germany and Japan. His work has attracted private collectors and has been sponsor by the Orly Airport and the Museum of Stadt-Buhl (Germany).
