Description
The image captures the intensity of an ocean in fury under a night sky. A solitary sailboat braves the elements, carried by waves of dazzling white. The movement is captured with precision. The matter seems to churn, creating a striking contrast between the foam and the abyssal depths.
The palette relies on shades of deep blue and touches of silvery light. The gesture is sure, mixing technical mastery and intuition. This composition plays on the balance between the abstraction of forms and the recognition of a marine landscape. The gaze travels from the turbulent water crests towards the darkness of the sky.
The influence of Caribbean landscapes is felt in the saturation of the tones. The light seems to burst from the heart of the canvas, illuminating the fragile silhouette of the vessel. Each shade of blue emphasizes the force of nature. The final rendering favors the sensation of movement and the depth of the visual field.
Presentation
Nicole Decote has carefully explored all genres. After taking courses at the Nancy School of Fine Art, the artist went on to perfect her skills in a number of workshops, practising still life, landscape, portraiture, geometric abstraction, hyperrealism and abstract expressionism.
Deeply attuned to what she sees, she develops a rigorous and generous practice, reflecting her desire to pass on to her public the pleasure of seeing and feeling.
The "Caribbean blue" that inspired the artist during her long stay in the West Indies and the intense tones of the sea and sky become the raw material of a practice that links the skill of the hand, the mastery of the gesture, and the artist's intuitive trust in chance.
Refusing to follow a precise direction or to constrain her practice, Nicole DECOTE creates compositions that range from abstraction to the representation of more familiar forms, from subtle and restrained chromatisms to sustained colour variations and contrasts.
The coloured patches that emerge from her creations are the fruit of an observation of the world and a sensitive experience.
