Description
A surreal encounter unfolds in this evocative mixed media painting. A pale, mask-like figure stands centered against a neutral backdrop. The character wears a dark coat punctuated by tiny, colorful dots. A bright orange collar adds a sharp contrast to the somber attire. The face remains enigmatic, marked by a small red nose and a melancholic expression. Perched atop the head, a few vibrant streaks of hair suggest a playful eccentricity.
The figure cradles a fluffy white llama with tenderness. This animal wears a shocking pink garment, blending Andean cultural symbols with a dreamlike aesthetic. A geometric rectangle of blue and orange frames the creature, creating a window of intense color within the composition. The artist employs a soft, precise touch to balance figurative representation with fantastic elements. Every line reflects a deep introspection into the contrast between urban life and highland traditions. The palette shifts from deep shadows to luminous highlights, guiding the eye toward the emotional bond between the man and his companion. This artwork captures a moment of quiet vulnerability and cultural identity.
Presentation
Rosemary Achata is a versatile emerging artist who builds on her strengths day by day. Honest to her work, she is a representative of a Bolivian contemporary figurative current with a focus on the representation of social issues and cultural aspects of the country.
Achata´s approach within this current is unique, because of her profound existential reflections, which originate in her life experiences between two contrasting landscapes, the Andean altiplano and the big city, both with their respective almost surreal social imaginaries; and come out because of her immense sensibility, evidenced by her traces and use of color. Her work oscillates between drawing and painting, always in the lookout for the appropriate plastic language to represent sensations, to tell us about her introspections.
