Description
Released in 1946, is one of the defining films of Hollywood's Golden Age. Directed by Charles Vidor and starring Rita Hayworth in her iconic role as the enigmatic nightclub singer Gilda, the film remains a landmark of film noir, celebrated for its atmosphere, visual elegance, and enduring cultural influence.
This VetroScope artwork reimagines an iconic publicity photograph of Rita Hayworth from through the visual language of a classic Hollywood One Sheet poster. Combining traditional oil painting with precision-cut vinyl applied to shadowbox glass, the work transforms a celebrated cinematic image into a contemporary fine art object.
The layered composition separates graphic elements from the painted surface, creating a physical sense of depth and a dialogue between painted image, glass, and reflection. This interplay between traditional painting and contemporary materials is central to the distinctive presentation of the VetroScope series. The process combines hand-painted oil on canvas with a precision-cut Oracal® 651 vinyl overlay, reverse applied to clear shadowbox glass to achieve the signature layered effect of the series.
Each VetroScope original is a unique one-of-one artwork. The reverse of the canvas is authenticated with the artist's custom studio stamp and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Presentation
Jeremy Bianco's paintings evoke the elegance and allure of mid-20th-century aesthetics through a contemporary lens. Drawing inspiration from Golden Age cinema, fashion magazines, and mid-century advertising, his work reinterprets nostalgia with a modern sensibility.
Building upon earlier figurative studies, Bianco has developed the VetroScope technique—a fusion of traditional oil painting with precision-cut vinyl overlays applied to glass within a shadowbox frame. This method introduces depth and a dynamic interplay of light and perspective, creating artworks that engage viewers from multiple angles.
Originally from Australia and now based in Italy, Bianco's practice bridges classical influences with modern techniques, inviting viewers to explore the subtleties of image, identity, perception, and to see elegance anew.
