Description
This series of works arises from a visual dialogue between two multidisciplinary artists, one from the Brazilian Amazon (ÍMPAR) and the other from Guadeloupe (ARTWHOS). Through their respective practices, they weave a dialogue between identity, memory, and Afro-descendant heritages.
Nourished by their cultural, historical, and personal references, this artistic encounter mobilizes the language of collage and painting to question the multiple facets of these heritages. From this collaboration emerge narratives where tradition and modernity, joy and resistance, violence and hope, personality and collective dimension intersect.
The diversity of materials and textures enriches the works on canvas and paper, revealing layers of reading and multiple resonances. Beyond the surface, this artistic dialogue invites a reconsideration of the boundaries between self and other, highlighting as much that distinguishes us as what connects us.
Presentation
Arthwhos, whose real name is Jules Garin, is a painter originally from Guadeloupe. Introduced to drawing and painting at a very young age by his mother and uncle, both artists, he quickly developed a keen artistic sensitivity.
A keen observer, he draws inspiration from his daily environment, exploring a wide variety of mediums—from canvas and walls to leather goods, bags, gold jewelry, textiles, and sneakers.
His deep passion for sneakers and his expertise in materials quickly led him to create bold and unique pieces, attracting the attention of renowned personalities such as Booba, Fianso, Gims, and even football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
In parallel, Arthwhos pursues a more personal artistic approach, influenced by contemporary art, pop culture, manga, and life itself. These iconic inspirations fuel his creativity, leading him through an introspective process where observation and contemplation shape each of his works.
