Description
Midnight Tales is a visual representation of an Afro woman dressed in a deep red veil with gold lining adorned with pearls, seated on her balcony, inviting you to the gatherings of her children to listen to her stories.
This suggests a traditional setting of family time, where we all gather after dinner to listen to grandma's stories, folklore, and parables; it's like a warm hug, transporting us back to those special moments with grandma, listening to stories that shaped our identity and culture.
This represents cherished moments shared under the cover of the night, a tradition wrapped in the mystery and quiet of the night.
Presentation
Darlington Irokanulo's practice explores anthropomorphic forms and figures through his lines and designs, influenced by a love for character development and imagery design, exploring the beauty of time using Afro-culture and retro lifestyles as a point of discussion. Through themes of individuality, lifestyles, trends, and self-consciousness, he aims to capture and document golden moments and memories, exploring the inherent beauty of the past, present, and future.
He has participated in a few art workshops, group exhibitions, and performances as an artist and volunteer
