Balthazar, 2019

Sabine Louriac

This captivating work is a bold exploration of form and color, made in a decidedly expressionist style. The artist uses a vibrant palette of blues, purples, yellows and blacks to create an abstract face, where each color seems to fight for first place. The central face is broken down into geometric and fluid shapes, creating a striking contrast. The eyes, disproportionate and expressive, immediately catch the eye, surrounded by bold strokes of turquoise and white. The nose, represented by a curved blue line, gives an almost sculptural dimension to this composition. The mouth, with a breath of green, adds a touch of liveliness, creating a visual harmony with the rest of the elements. The intense use of black to represent the beard brings an intriguing depth, balancing the lighter hues. A notable element is the stylized hand that seems to come out of the face, adding a dynamic of movement and a surreal aspect to the whole. This hand, with its outstretched fingers, creates a fascinating interplay between human and abstract forms, blurring the line between the recognizable and the imaginary. In the background, blocks of color play with the perception of three-dimensionality, giving the impression that the face emerges from a living canvas. The entire work becomes a dialogue between chaos and order, intuition and structure, captivating the viewer with its detailed richness and expressive boldness. This piece is a testament to the ability of art to transcend mere representation and explore the depths of emotion and perception.
