Description
A composition balancing between abstraction and figuration. The gaze first travels towards a turbulent sky. The material accumulates in thick layers there. White dominates, textured and dense. Shades of gray and blue subtly slip in.
At the bottom, an azure expanse opens up. White silhouettes unfold in it in an organized procession. These repetitive forms evoke a collective movement. They seem to float on a liquid surface or glide on an infinite ground.
Red, yellow, and blue dots rhythmize the scene. They bring visual lightness to the whole. The contrast between the heaviness of the sky and the fluidity of the bottom creates a balanced tension.
The work on relief reinforces the tactile dimension of the canvas. The light catches the peaks of paint. It emphasizes the depth of the deep blue at the bottom of the image. The whole ends with a discreet signature in the lower right corner.
Presentation
Alberto Letamendi, is an artist from Ordizia (Basque Country) born in 1964.
In his work, whether in painting or sculpture, he uses various techniques with a preference for natural materials such as fe powder, wood and pigments. His series "ITXAROPENA" - Hope - is a work, inspired by Basque heritage.
The artist with his characters dressed in traditional Basque costumes, shows us his vision of local solidarity and mutual aid. The human warmth released by the bright colors, refers to the idea of communion and unity that exists in its territory.
Great artist of the new Basque generation, Alberto Letamendi is an artist followed for years by some collectors. In 2019, the artist inaugurated a sculpture "Elkarri Begirra" commissioned by the city of Tolosa (Spain), to celebrate the peace process in the Basque Country.
