Whisper of Hydrangeas, 2024

Olha Symonenko

In this work, I explored the rhythm, density, and captivating geometry of natural bloom. For me, the lush inflorescences of hydrangeas are not merely a floral subject, but a metaphor for creative abundance, harmonious structure, and quiet, contemplative beauty.
The composition is built on the contrast between the luminous, spherical volumes of the flowers and a deep, almost mystical dark background. I intentionally employed a rich color palette where vibrant cerulean blue, soft sky blue, and cornflower blue interact with subtle accents of titanium white and rich sap green foliage. Applying paint with a palette knife allowed me to build a tactile, sculptured texture for every single petal, giving the impression that the blooms are emerging from the canvas, filling the surrounding space with air and freshness.
This painting is an invitation to pause and look closely at the harmony of nature's microcosm. I aimed to create a work that brings not only bold visual elegance to an interior, but also a sense of serene, meditative presence.
