Shadow, 2026

Olha Symonenko

This painting belongs to the Theatre of One Actor series and is a contemporary figurative composition centered on a solitary female figure.
A woman is seated in a spacious, open pose, wrapped in a voluminous fur coat. Her lowered gaze and quiet posture convey a sense of introspection and stillness, while a powerful emphasis is placed on the placement and movement of her legs. Bright blue stockings and shoes create a striking visual accent against the muted beige, gray, and brown tones of the interior.
Behind the woman, a large deep-blue shadow-like form creates a dramatic counterpart to her figure. A softly illuminated circular area surrounds the seated woman, evoking the atmosphere of a theatrical spotlight and emphasizing her presence on the stage-like space.
The painting combines expressive figurative brushwork with broad, tactile strokes and simplified forms. The contrast between the solitary human figure, dramatic blue shadow, and surrounding darkness reinforces the theatrical and psychological character of the work.
The painting explores solitude, introspection, and the relationship between a person and their inner shadow, presenting the woman as both performer and observer within her own private theatrical space.  The artwork will be shipped rolled for safe transit, dimensions of the painting  63,78/51,97/0,03inch (162/132/0,01 cm), dimensions closely align with US standards.
