Description
The gaze stops on a duo with stylized silhouettes. Two figures embrace in a stripped-down composition. The artist favors simplified forms. The line fades in favor of broad areas of color.
A sober palette dominates the space. The deep blue of the background contrasts with shades of ochre and off-white. These earthy tones bring an organic dimension to the scene. The material is worked with density. The grain of the support shows through the paint, creating a subtle relief.
The gesture is protective. One arm encircles the other's shoulder in a fluid movement. This proximity suggests a silent complicity. The absence of distinct features on the faces universalizes the subject. The light seems to emanate from the center of the canvas.
The balance of masses structures the image. The luminous white cuts the bodies out against the dark background. Each colored area defines a volume without resorting to classical drawing. The whole rests on a play of chromatic and textural contrasts.
Presentation
François Sauvage is a self-taught artist whose particularity is the modeling of leather. After spending fourteen years in art workshops in Paris, he developed a unique technique that allowed him to shape life-size leather figures. Exhibited and sold all over the world, this particular mastery earned him to collaborate in the renovation of prestigious places where his decoration proposals combined aesthetics and refinement.
Since 2021 he has devoted himself entirely to his passions: clay and painting.
His large-format paintings impose and reveal a palette of colors that are sometimes soothing, playful with a pure lightness, at the same time powerful, deep and sensitive.
