Description
One could say that this painting captures the ethereal boundary between sky and sea. It is a profound exploration of atmosphere and light. The composition unfolds through a sophisticated gradient of blues: Pale cerulean tones drift at the top and they gradually deepen into a dense, midnight indigo at the base.
Maria Paola Coda employs a meditative process. Layer upon layer of pigment creates a rich, tactile surface. These textured applications evoke organic processes and shifting weather patterns. Light seems to emanate from within the matter. It breathes through the canvas. The result is a contemplative space that invites silence.
Trained in Florence and now based in Spain, the creator focuses on the relationship between colour and emotion. This artwork reflects a singular state of being. It avoids literal representation to reach a poetic essence. The depth of the dark horizon provides a grounding force against the lightness of the upper atmosphere. Every brushstroke contributes to a sense of timelessness and solitude. The final effect is a seamless transition of tone and texture.
Maria Paola Coda (1981, Italy) was awarded a special mention at the International Contest of Contemporary Art in Postiniano (Italy) in 2004, that same year she began exhibiting her art in her native country. Coda's work has since been shown in Gerona, New York, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Ourense and Florence.
In Maria Paola's acrylic abstract paintings, what seems to be soft and delicate etchings, are in actual fact much more than that: They are seeped in emotion, in mental states, moods, thoughts and experiences. With each stroke, each colour, each line, she examines and portrays identity, time and space. There is poetry to be found on her canvases where shades and shapes vibrate together to awaken sensibility and connections. Her work is a permanent search into the beauty that hides in the state of one's mind.
Presentation
Maria Paola Coda (Italy, 1981) is a contemporary artist based in Spain since 2006 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Her work focuses on abstract and material painting, exploring the relationship between light, color, and organic processes. Since 2004, she has exhibited internationally in galleries and art fairs across the United Kingdom, the United States, The Netherlands, France, Germany, and Turkey, and her paintings are held in private collections worldwide.
Inspired by nature and its shifting atmospheres, Coda creates layered, textured surfaces that evoke the boundary between the visible and the invisible. Her process is slow and meditative, and each artwork embodies a unique emotional state. The titles of her works, always prime numbers, extend this poetic inquiry. Chosen for their singularity and indivisible nature, these numbers exist in solitude within the mathematical order. Each number, like each painting, embodies a unique and unrepeatable emotional state—a resonance that cannot be reproduced. Her paintings invite an intimate and contemplative experience, where matter seems to breathe and light becomes an inner language.
