Description
Crossing to Belle-Île-en-Mer, cloudy sky
A solitary silhouette contemplates the horizon from the deck of a ship. The gaze is lost in the immensity of a cloudy sky, where shades of gray intertwine softly. The composition plays on rigorous geometric lines. The metal structure of the boat anchors the scene in a tangible reality.
The oil work brings a subtle depth to the surfaces. The blocks of cool colors emphasize the calm and contemplative atmosphere. Each element is arranged with precision to establish a feeling of serenity. The contrast between human fragility and industrial mass creates a controlled visual balance.
The artist favors a streamlined figurative approach. He transforms an everyday moment into a reflection on solitude and space. The light unifies the entire maritime landscape. The final rendering focuses on the harmony of forms. A play of sharp perspectives is observed, accentuated by the shadows cast on the steel blue ground.
Presentation
Serge Nicolas-Castel is a painter from Vannes (Morbihan) whose work is based on simple compositions that project moments of everyday life around characters and seascapes.
Genre scenes are inspired by our immediate surroundings. Human, urban, plant, or maritime nature provides daily sources of inspiration, the graphic dimension of which does not always have time to be perceived.
Each work is a construction inspired by a perceived scene; the compositional work aims for emotion, questioning, reflection, and appeasement, but everyone can imagine whatever they want.
Oil painting, a slow medium, is favored for its depth, fluidity, and effects. A constant search for harmonies of form and color occupies his work, allowing him to offer original or unusual works through his figurative style.
