Description
This gouache on paper, dated from the 1950s–1970s, represents a lively Parisian street scene with passers-by, Haussmannian facades, trees, and a green bus. The dynamic composition and the colorful palette vividly reproduce the atmosphere of the great Parisian boulevards. The work is presented in a gold frame with matting.

Roland Hamon (1909–1987) is a French painter specializing in Parisian life scenes. His colorful and lively gouaches happily capture the effervescence of the boulevards, markets, and streets of Paris, in a narrative and warm style that attracts lovers of French figurative art.

Roland Hamon is an emblematic figure of 20th-century French figurative painting. Attached to the prestigious École de Paris, he navigated his era by placing a view of infinite poetry upon it, becoming one of the most sensitive visual chroniclers of his time.
His initial training is that of excellence: admitted to the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Paris, he perfected his technique in the studio of master Fernand Cormon. From this rigorous academic teaching, he retained an absolute mastery of composition and drawing, which he was quick to free up in favor of a more modern, vibrant, and spontaneous touch.
Painter of light and movement, Roland Hamon excels as well in oil as in watercolor and gouache. His subjects of predilection testify to his fascination for animation and atmospheres:
His style is distinguished by a rich chromatic palette and a rare ability to capture the fleeting moment. In Hamon, a silhouette fading on a wet sidewalk or the reflection of the sky in a port becomes the pretext for a celebration of life.
