Description
A floral composition flourishes generously in a blue porcelain vase. The roses, in shades of powdered pink and white, dominate the scene. The brush comes alive to translate the fragility of the petals and the vigor of the green stems.
The oil technique allows for subtle plays of light. The background, mixing mauve and white tones, creates an airy atmosphere. A few deliberate drips bring a touch of modernity to this classic subject.
The contrast between the rigid structure of the vase and the organic exuberance of the flowers guides the eye. This still life plays on the balance between precision and improvisation. The light seems to pass through the canvas, highlighting the delicacy of the plant forms.
The artist captures a suspended moment. The chromatic palette combines cool and warm tones for a harmonious rendering. The final rendering highlights the rich texture of the paint, visible in every brushstroke. This canvas, made in 2025, explores the poetry of the vegetal through an expressive style.
Presentation
Goddard described Lamont's paintings as "great romantic gestures... Her aim to piece together an organic beauty in a fleeting psychological moment is done so sumptuously". Baird described her large canvases as "luxuriant and expressive" and her miniatures as "pristine and lyrical."
She has exhibited her work in museums and galleries both Nationally and Internationally and has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards, from the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Arts Council. She has received public commissions from the Art On Public Lands, Visual Arts Centre of Clarington and the Koffler Gallery in Toronto. Most recently her work was purchased in 2016 by the Government of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs to be installed in the New Nato Chancery Building in Brussels Belgium.
