Description
The gaze falls on a bouquet of roses captured in a fleeting instant. Here, the still life breaks free from classical rigor to explore the psychological dimension of the flower.
The oil is applied generously. The touches are broad and expressive. The tender pink of the petals contrasts with the depth of a dark, almost nocturnal background.
The play of shadow and light structures the composition. The stems and leaves of a dense green anchor the scene in an organic reality. Each brushstroke emphasizes the fragility of the plant in the face of the surrounding darkness.
The approach is lyrical. The movement of the gesture prevails over anecdotal detail. The composition suggests an ephemeral beauty, captured with mastered technical precision.
The balance between light areas and areas of shadow creates visual tension. This canvas, created in 2025, stands out for its nuanced color palette and dense texture.

Goddard described Lamont's paintings as "great romantic gestures... Her aim to piece together an organic beauty in a fleeting psychological moment is done so sumptuously". Baird described her large canvases as "luxuriant and expressive" and her miniatures as "pristine and lyrical."Â
She has exhibited her work in museums and galleries both Nationally and Internationally and has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards, from the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Arts Council. She has received public commissions from the Art On Public Lands, Visual Arts Centre of Clarington and the Koffler Gallery in Toronto. Most recently her work was purchased in 2016 by the Government of Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs to be installed in the New Nato Chancery Building in Brussels Belgium.
