Description
This composition plays on a marked chromatic contrast. A azure blue dominates the upper part, evoking an immense sky. Below, a deeper shade suggests the marine expanse. Two children occupy the center of the scene. They sail on an improvised raft, propelled by a white sail.
The technique mixes acrylic painting and collages. The artist assembles visual fragments to build their narrative. Graphic elements and paint traces are scattered along the edges of the painting. The work recalls the codes of Pop Art and Street Art.
The balance between abstraction and figuration guides the eye. The textures overlap to create a subtle relief. The whole evokes the nostalgia of childhood games and adventure. The natural wood frame accentuates the square structure of the canvas. The work dates from 2026.
Presentation
Jean-Philippe Berger is a French artist born in 1968 in Dijon. After working in the field of Research and Innovation, he has devoted himself fully to contemporary art since 2007, the year he founded the Open Art Galerie. A gallery bringing together around thirty artists presenting varied works.
Jean-Philippe Berger's initial approach was based on mixed media work combining collages, acrylic paint and spray stencils.
His works revisit icons of popular culture and art history: superheroes , cinema figures or timeless myths intertwine to create new visual narratives. Torn posters, torn photos and graphic elements are meticulously assembled to compose scenes at the crossroads of Pop Art and Street Art.
The artist invites the viewer to dive into a vibrant universe where every detail tells a story, between homage and reinterpretation.
Over the years, his work tends more and more towards abstraction. The figurative elements that appear in the painting are the starting point for an abstract composition where the balance of shapes and colors is at the center of his research.
