Description
This composition explores urban architecture with geometric precision. The gaze rises to a horizon of zinc and stone. The artist captures the silence of a Parisian roof. The lines are sharp. The perspectives intertwine with rigor.
A palette of grays and beiges dominates the scene. It emphasizes the sobriety of the materials. A few touches of terracotta punctuate the painting. These warm accents rhythmize the repetition of the chimneys. The light is even and diffuse. It reveals the texture of the mineral surfaces.
The framing plunges the viewer into a contemplative solitude. Every angle is studied. The city becomes a game of volumes and superimposed planes. The passage of time is perceived through these immutable structures. The oil is worked with finesse to render the coldness of the metal and the dullness of the stucco. The visual rendering focuses on the regular repetition of the ventilation ducts.
Presentation
Marie-France Garrigues was born in Montauban, the city of Ingres and Bourdelle. During her teenage years, she studied drawing in the workshop of sculptor Flavio de Faveri. These years allowed her to quickly express herself through this art. At the same time, scientific studies led her to live in French Polynesia, where she worked as an investment operations manager in the building sector for the Territory of French Polynesia, and later as a project manager for the President.
Upon returning to mainland France in the 2000s, she diversified her artistic techniques, dedicating herself primarily to oil painting after studying this medium at the Beaux-Arts in Paris with Gilles Marey.
In 2010, painting became her sole activity, and she participated in various solo and group exhibitions in France and internationally, sharing her art worldwide.
In 2018, she was named a Member of the Société des Artistes Français; in 2019, a Member of the Taylor Foundation; in 2022, a Member of the Salon Violet; and in 2024, a Member of the Salon d'Automne.
The city inspires her, and she enjoys exploring architecture and its diverse perceptions: capturing freedom, modernity, the passage of time, light, solitude, and silence.
