Description
With "La Barque", William Marcheval continues his poetic exploration of silent shores. This work, from the series "Au fil de l'eau", is not a simple representation of an object, but the capture of an inhabited absence. The boat, still and moored, becomes the anchor point for a daydream about suspended time and the tranquility of forgotten places. The Transparency and Italian Light The watercolor, by essence a technique of water, is brought to its extreme here. The joint use of Blockx, Horadam de Schmincke pigments and the particular brilliance of Divolo colors allows for washes of crystalline transparency. On the 100% cotton Fabriano paper with a smooth grain, this alliance of European pigments creates a vibrant, almost solar luminosity that contrasts with the depth of the waters. William Marcheval masters the art of reflection: the water is not painted, it is suggested by subtle fusions that unite the sky and the surface. The Architecture of Silence The composition plays on balances: the defined structure of the vessel opposes the evanescent verticality of the surrounding vegetation. Treated in "wet-on-wet", the trees and reeds dissolve into a colored mist, reinforcing the feeling of peaceful solitude. The choice of a "View" format of 28 x 40 cm focuses the gaze on this oasis of calm, offering an instant visual breath. An Inner Escape Technically, the work is a tribute to the mastery of water. The smooth grain paper allows for a perfect glide of the brush to define the silhouette of the boat, while allowing for soft chromatic fusions in the backgrounds. "La Barque" is an invitation to silent escape, a fragment of preserved nature where time seems to have suspended its flight.

A rich and eclectic journey
Born in 1957 in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, William Marcheval followed an atypical path, mixing academic training, professional experience, and artistic passion.
After obtaining his high school diploma at the age of 17, he joined the army where he acquired solid technical skills, particularly in computer engineering and economic sciences.
Starting in the 1980s, he began a career in the business world, holding various management positions in commerce and communication. At the same time, he developed expertise in the field of digital and graphic design, founding his own company.
The call of art
His passion for art led him to pursue training in applied arts, and then to study drawing and painting at the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nîmes. From the 2000s, he decided to dedicate himself professionally to his artistic practice.
A unique artistic universe
William Marcheval's work is characterized by a constant search for emotion and movement. His canvases, often inspired by the world around him, invite the viewer on a journey between reality and imagination.
His influences are multiple, drawing as much from the world of fantasy and fantasy as from the work of great painting masters such as Turner, Caillebotte, Degas, Picasso, Dali, Magritte, or Hopper.
Techniques and inspirations
Marcheval favors acrylics and oil painting, notably using the techniques of glazing and sfumato to create effects of depth and mystery. His preferred colors are earth pigments, while blue and white dominate in his watercolors.
He also explores soft pastel, a medium he appreciates for its sensuality.
