Description
This watercolor of 40 x 28 cm, created by the artist William Marcheval, transports us to a peaceful and dreamlike scene, imbued with a strong Asian influence. The work, painted on high-quality paper, Fabriano 100% cotton, is a testament to the artist's talent for creating poetic atmospheres. Description, expression and narration of the work The composition features a river or lake landscape. In the foreground, a boat is moored, on board of which stands, unexpectedly, a large white egret. This majestic bird seems to be the silent passenger of a voyage where, further away, a fisherman dressed in red and wearing a conical hat is sitting with his back turned, suggesting a scene of Asian daily life. The scene is bathed in a soft and diffused light. The banks are lush, with tall grasses and, above the boat, the branches of a weeping willow are adorned with pink flowers that fall in a cascade. The background, treated in blue and violet tones, fades into a light mist, creating a beautiful depth of field. This work tells a story of tranquility and harmony between man, animal, and nature. It expresses a contemplative and idealized vision, a moment suspended out of time. The surreal presence of the egret in the boat invites a poetic reading, transforming a simple fishing scene into an allegory of travel and serenity. Creation technique and high-quality materials William Marcheval used extra-fine watercolors from the prestigious brands Horadam Schmincke and Blockx. Horadam Schmincke watercolors are renowned for the quality and fineness of their pigments, offering colors of remarkable brilliance and lightfastness. Blockx watercolors, based on honey, are appreciated for their pleasant texture, vibrancy, and ease of rehydration, which allows for a fluid work. The chosen support, Fabriano Artistico 100% cotton paper, is archival quality paper, made in a round shape to reproduce the characteristics of handmade paper. Its composition guarantees excellent preservation and ideal water absorption, allowing the artist to layer the washes (glazes) and work wet-on-wet (washes) with great mastery. Artistic style and quality of the work Polymorphic artist, William Marcheval develops a figurative style that navigates between realism and poetic abstraction. In this work, we find his taste for exploring humanist themes and tenderness. His work in watercolor is particularly remarkable, with a predilection for blue and white tones that dominate the right part of the composition. The contrast with the bright red of the fisherman's jacket creates an effective focal point that energizes the scene. The quality of the watercolor lies in its impeccable technical execution, its balanced composition, and its ability to evoke a deep emotion. It is a work that invites calm and daydreaming.

A rich and eclectic journey
Born in 1957 in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, William Marcheval followed an atypical path, mixing academic training, professional experience, and artistic passion.
After obtaining his high school diploma at the age of 17, he joined the army where he acquired solid technical skills, particularly in computer engineering and economic sciences.
Starting in the 1980s, he began a career in the business world, holding various management positions in commerce and communication. At the same time, he developed expertise in the field of digital and graphic design, founding his own company.
The call of art
His passion for art led him to pursue training in applied arts, and then to study drawing and painting at the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Nîmes. From the 2000s, he decided to dedicate himself professionally to his artistic practice.
A unique artistic universe
William Marcheval's work is characterized by a constant search for emotion and movement. His canvases, often inspired by the world around him, invite the viewer on a journey between reality and imagination.
His influences are multiple, drawing as much from the world of fantasy and fantasy as from the work of great painting masters such as Turner, Caillebotte, Degas, Picasso, Dali, Magritte, or Hopper.
Techniques and inspirations
Marcheval favors acrylics and oil painting, notably using the techniques of glazing and sfumato to create effects of depth and mystery. His preferred colors are earth pigments, while blue and white dominate in his watercolors.
He also explores soft pastel, a medium he appreciates for its sensuality.
The quest for emotion
For William Marcheval, art is above all a vector of emotions. He seeks, through his creations, to evoke wonder, questioning, and escape.
His work, constantly evolving, testifies to a deep artistic sensitivity and a permanent desire to push the boundaries of his creativity.
