Description
A divine presence radiates from this detailed miniature. Krishna sits in peaceful meditation. He rests upon a blooming pink lotus. His form is poised and serene. A golden crown adorns his head while he plays a slender flute. The colors are vivid. Bright yellow silk drapes his lower body. Rich orange tones highlight his attire.
Beneath him lies the majestic serpent Shesha. The creature curves gracefully through a tranquil pond. Multiple heads rise in a protective arc. This celestial guardian frames the central figure with rhythmic precision.
The landscape breathes with gentle life. Lush green foliage fills the background. Soft rolling hills lead the eye toward modest architecture under a muted sky. Large lotus leaves float upon the water. Pink blossoms echo the seat of the deity. Every line is precise. Every pigment is applied with expert control. This artwork balances spiritual devotion with a refined aesthetic.
Presentation
Rajeev Kumar (b. 1982) is a highly skilled practitioner of miniature art typical of the Kangra region of the lower Himalayan ranges of Northern India.
Though once thriving, traditional Kangra miniature painting is now hard to find. Efforts by organisations like CORD (Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development) keep this tradition alive, inviting a new generation to explore its beauty and the spiritual stories it tells.
Rajeev Kumar has honed his skill for over 20 years and he is assisted in his efforts with research and guidance from CORD.
