Description
This abstract composition plays on a radical chromatic contrast. A vertical red rectangle stands out sharply against a deep black background. The visual balance rests on a rigorous geometric structure.
The work relies on the use of wood as a support. The application of acrylic creates a tangible relief. Two organic shapes seem to float or be embedded in the central band.
The eye moves between these two irregular masses. They break the linearity of the plane. Touches of yellow appear discreetly. They bring a luminous nuance to the whole.
The management of space suggests a reflection on duality and stability. The precision of the line dialogues with the raw material. The whole exudes a serene and controlled force.
The work dates from the year 200. It associates the rigor of geometry with a tactile exploration of the material.
Presentation
Jean-Claude Coutaz was born in 1944 in Saint-Maurice VS. He began his studies at the Collège de Saint-Maurice following the classical Latin-English track, continued them at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFL) from which he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
It was in 1972 that he settled in Sion with his wife and opened his own engineering office.
JCC began painting in 1980 and since then his technique has continued to evolve.
