Description
This abstract composition explores the fragile balance between form and color.
The artist works the material with a knife, superimposing layers of acrylic to create dense blocks.
The canvas is structured around three horizontal blocks. Two bands of an intense red are superimposed on a large orange rectangle.
These colored masses float on a neutral grey background, almost mineral, which emphasizes the luminosity of the warm tones.
The search for an elemental form guides the gesture, oscillating between harmony and visual tension.
The execution favors the simplicity of the line and the depth of the pigments.
This 2026 painting is part of a minimalist approach where emotion is born from the confrontation of colors.
The final rendering presents slightly irregular contours, bringing a human and organic dimension to the geometric rigor.
Presentation
Frédérique Barba draws inspiration through her emotions, experience, interior images which she then colors, in the same lines as Zao Wou-Ki, Gerhard Richter or Mark Rothko, and she openly calls them to be her inspiration.
In search of an elementary shape, the artist targets the imbalance in harmony. Her favorite medium is acrylic, she works with a knife and successive flat tints, which slowly take shape on canvas, portraying her emotions.
Frédérique Barba is mainly exhibited at the Open Art Gallery.
