Description
This abstract composition explores the tension between shadow and light. A central block of deep blue dominates the canvas, creating a sensation of immediate depth. The acrylic work manifests through successive layers of flat hues. The artist uses the knife to sculpt the material and define the contours.
The eye glides to the edges where the blue fades to make way for ocher and sand tones. Vertical drips punctuate the base of the painting, bringing an organic dynamism to the structure. This search for balance fragments the space and suggests an inner landscape.
The technical approach is in line with a minimalist lineage, where the elementary form becomes the vector of a raw emotion. The contrast between the density of the center and the clarity of the margins accentuates the immersive dimension of the canvas.
Created in 2025, this painting plays with subtle chromatic transitions. The surface reveals traces of precise gestures, alternating between opaque areas and more transparent passages.
Presentation
Frédérique Barba draws inspiration through her emotions, experience, interior images which she then colors, in the same lines as Zao Wou-Ki, Gerhard Richter or Mark Rothko, and she openly calls them to be her inspiration.
In search of an elementary shape, the artist targets the imbalance in harmony. Her favorite medium is acrylic, she works with a knife and successive flat tints, which slowly take shape on canvas, portraying her emotions.
Frédérique Barba is mainly exhibited at the Open Art Gallery.
