Description
Abstraction is expressed here through a search for elemental forms.
The gaze scans a grid organized in two columns.
Each colored rectangle seems to float on a neutral background.
The artist uses acrylic and a knife to build their composition.
The successive flat areas create a subtle depth.
The dialogue is established between ochre tones and shades of blue.
Some blocks tend towards deep green while others lighten to turquoise.
The balance arises from this rigorous chromatic confrontation.
The material is worked with precision to translate an inner state.
The whole rests on a visual harmony where color becomes the main subject.
This painting from 2025 explores the tension between structure and emotion.
The final rendering is characterized by softened contours and matte surfaces.
Presentation
Frédérique Barba draws inspiration through her emotions, experience, interior images which she then colors, in the same lines as Zao Wou-Ki, Gerhard Richter or Mark Rothko, and she openly calls them to be her inspiration.
In search of an elementary shape, the artist targets the imbalance in harmony. Her favorite medium is acrylic, she works with a knife and successive flat tints, which slowly take shape on canvas, portraying her emotions.
Frédérique Barba is mainly exhibited at the Open Art Gallery.
