Description
This abstract composition relies on a rigorous balance of horizontal forms. The artist structures the space into distinct zones, alternating planes of primary and neutral colors.
Yellow dominates the upper and lower parts. It brings immediate luminosity to the whole. In the center, a wide white rectangle creates a point of breathing, a deliberate void that emphasizes the density of the surrounding pigments.
The work with a knife is paramount here. The acrylic material accumulates in successive layers. This technique reveals traces of gestures and irregular textures on the edges of the blocks.
The influence of lyrical abstraction is felt in this search for the elementary. Each zone seems to vibrate according to its own thickness. The contrast between the purity of white and the brilliance of yellow guides the gaze according to a vertical rhythm.
Created in 2022, this painting explores the tension between harmony and imbalance. The final rendering favors the tactile sensation of the canvas, marked by chalky edges and a frank application of color.
Presentation
Frédérique Barba draws inspiration through her emotions, experience, interior images which she then colors, in the same lines as Zao Wou-Ki, Gerhard Richter or Mark Rothko, and she openly calls them to be her inspiration.
In search of an elementary shape, the artist targets the imbalance in harmony. Her favorite medium is acrylic, she works with a knife and successive flat tints, which slowly take shape on canvas, portraying her emotions.
Frédérique Barba is mainly exhibited at the Open Art Gallery.
