Description
This feminine gaze captures attention. It emerges from a controlled chaos. The face of this woman recomposes itself through fragments of paper and splashes of paint.
This collage technique fragments reality to better question identity: this is what defines the work of Appaloosa.
Black and white dominates the portrait. It brings an immediate graphic tension. Touches of bright pink from the spray can break this rigor. These colored projections create a dynamic visual rhythm on the dark background and add a very street art aspect to the work.
The work on the material is precise. The tears are sharp. The contrast between the precision of the line and the freedom of the gesture brings a subtle balance. The typographic letters interweave with the facial features. They suggest an interrupted narrative, a fragmented memory.
This hybrid portrait mixes urban art and classical composition.
Presentation
Appaloosa is a French artist. He studied at the Beaux-Arts in several French cities, between Beaune, Marseille and Annecy.
He began a career as a graphic designer with an event agency, but in 2014 he left his job and began a career as a professional artist, which took him to various countries and to receive several awards.
Appaloosa's works are the result of several plastic techniques, including collage from papers torn by the artist.
He built up a vast collection of current and modern images collected from magazines and posters.
Thus, Appaloosa recycles images specific to our current society and reconstructs, from these testimonies, a work in its own right. Appaloosa's works sometimes display an almost semi-abstract disorder, in compositions as colorful as they are dynamic.
The artist seeks to reverse the usual codes of a canvas: the subject becomes matter, and vice versa.
