Description
TWO HEARTS OF THE FOREST
Inna Pupina
2024 · Acrylic on canvas
Two deer meet within a forest expressed through interwoven shapes and a delicate palette. A stag approaches from the left, its branching antlers rising through the upper composition. A smaller deer faces it from the right, their muzzles drawing close in a quiet moment of connection.
Inna Pupina integrates the animals into a continuous network of dark lines. These contours describe antlers, faces and surrounding organic forms, allowing the figures and their environment to share the same visual structure.
Pale blue and slate grey alternate with ivory, sage green, peach and warm ochre. The colour relationships soften the strong outlines and give the painting a calm, welcoming presence. Fine scattered speckles introduce surface detail within the broader painted shapes.
The composition moves between recognisable animal forms and abstraction. Its segmented structure recalls stained glass, while the branching lines suggest the growth and interconnectedness of a woodland landscape.
The title, Two Hearts of the Forest, offers an emotional entry into this encounter. The closeness of the figures invites reflection on tenderness, trust and the comfort of companionship. Their shared surroundings extend this feeling into a broader sense of belonging within nature.

Presentation
Inna Pupina is a contemporary painter whose practice centres on the emotional life of landscape. Working exclusively in acrylic on canvas, she develops compositions that move beyond topographical description toward atmosphere, sensation and inner experience.
Her signature approach combines expressive layering, refined colour harmonies and a sustained attention to light — particularly the luminous, shifting quality of Nordic and Eastern European natural environments. Forests, water and sky recur throughout her work not as subjects to be recorded, but as vehicles for contemplating stillness, time and the passage between states.
Pupina's paintings are characterised by their chromatic depth: violets, blues and greens are built through successive transparent glazes, generating a sense of visual resonance that photographs rarely capture in full. The surface holds both spontaneity and control — gestural passages sit alongside areas of quiet precision, creating compositions that reward sustained looking.
Represented by Abstract Art Gallery since 2013, Inna Pupina's original works are held in private collections across Europe. Her paintings are appreciated for their capacity to transform a domestic or professional interior into a space of contemplation — present without being intrusive, decorative without being passive.
She exhibits internationally and continues to develop her practice from her studio in Riga, Latvia.
