Description
An organic form seems to float in a neutral space. The center illuminates with golden and coppery reflections. Circles overlap. They create a precise visual rhythm. Purple spots mark the heart of these circular structures.
The contrast between the luminosity of the center and the depth of the pigments creates a subtle relief. An exploration of materials and chemical reactions is perceived. The work on transparency brings lightness to the composition.
The dark border emphasizes the silhouette and separates the piece from its gray background. The whole evokes a microscopic observation or a cell viewed under a microscope. Each shade of red and ochre blends into a controlled gradient. This composition plays on the balance between abstraction and natural structure. The use of metallic pigments captures the light according to the viewing angle. The final rendering leaves room for calm and analytical contemplation.
Presentation
Born in Paris in 1968, Izae Etifier is of Martinican origin. At 25, she leaves the capital to settle in Martinique, starting a nomadic lifestyle that will take her to Guyana, Senegal, Costa Rica, Spain, Guadeloupe, and Marseille, before returning to settle in Martinique in 2019.
Self-taught, she first explores the figurative and portrait before turning to abstraction in 2016. She confides having been, at 25, deeply marked by the reading of Hermann Hesse. This philosophical novel recounts the spiritual journey of a young man seeking to attain self-knowledge. Similarly, Izae Etifier's journey through different places and practices is a voyage to the encounter with herself, a quest for meaning between introspection and connection to the world. Painting becomes her anchor: her approach allows her to inscribe into the material a search linked to memory, time, and inner transformations.
Her inspiration springs from multiple sources: nature, dance, her readings… but also artistic figures that resonate within her, such as Lee Ufan and the importance of sensory experience in her work or Fabienne Verdier and her quest for spirituality through art. The installation of her studio at the Village de la Poterie des Trois-Îlets in Martinique marks an important step in her journey: she is now developing a work using clay taken from nature and recycled paper. This research gradually leads her towards the artisanal making of paper sheets, which have become the central support of her work today.
