Description
This is a tender, lyrical painting executed in impasto strokes that create a sense of light mistiness and calm. Before us is a small white chapel with blue domes, like a quiet sanctuary lost in a soft, muted landscape. Its silhouette is painted in thick paint, so that the structure stands out from the background almost in relief.
In the center of the composition is a human figure, small and dark against the light walls of the chapel. This adds scale and a sense of human presence in a space that seems boundlessly quiet.
The overall atmosphere of the painting is one of calm, quiet and gentle melancholy. It seems to be about early morning, when the world is just waking and the space is filled with soft mist and dreaminess.
