Description
The Lost
Through The Lost, Vincent Carpentier explores human figures withdrawn from the world, as suspended between presence and disappearance. The painting mixes with fragments of torn posters, traces, and tears, bringing the characters to the fore from an urban material laden with memory. Without telling their story, the artist gives them a presence and a place, inviting the gaze to linger on these fragile existences, often left in the shadow.
Go!
The character, asleep, seems to stand at a distance from the world, as if absorbed in a suspended moment. The fragments of posters and the tears surrounding him echo his silent presence, between erasure and persistence.
Presentation
After working as a commercial engineer from 1987 to 1992, notably in Egypt, and then as a middle school math teacher for thirty years, I am now dedicating myself to the plastic/visual work that I have been pursuing in parallel, in the background, for several years.
Photography, especially "street photography," is at the source of this work. The human element was central to this photographic work, just as it was in my teaching career.
For several years, alongside and feeding off this photographic work, I have gradually developed a plastic/visual practice, influenced by urban art, where painting and collages, particularly of poster fragments, are taking an increasing role.
