Description
A small light boat slides on almost motionless water. On board, a person wearing an orange hat looks forward, while in the distance a dark bank draws a line of trees and buildings. The boat and its reflection occupy the center of the canvas, their contours extending into the water in fluid touches. The composition plays on the contrast between the dense, dark band of the horizon and the vast pale surface of the foreground. Turquoise, brown and orange accents cloud the reflections without breaking the calm of the scene. The whole evokes a suspended moment, where the silhouette, the boat and the landscape respond to each other in an almost abstract reflection.
Presentation
Born in 1961 Jean Marie Drouet is graduated from the Fine Arts School of Angoulême. He likes drawing and making lot of photos before beginning a painting. He is inspired by contemporary photography and film culture that gives him an optimistic look on the world.
Referring to the American realistic painters such as N.C Wyeth or Edward Hopper, life’s scenes and characters are his favorite subjects. He is also fascinated by strong light contrasts and minimalistic settings. Sunlight is everywhere in Jean Marie Drouet paintings showing us the beautiful side of life.; his painting is quiet and bright aiming the beauty of the present time.
