Description

In Kohaku Reverie : Vermilion Veil, Hiro Ando transforms the iconic LOVE sculpture into a vibrant pictorial space where Japanese tradition and contemporary Neo-Pop language merge with striking chromatic intensity.
Dominating the composition, the vermilion structure becomes an emotional architecture within which Nishikigoi evolve as symbolic messengers of perseverance, fortune, and harmony.
The Kohaku carps, emblematic figures of Japanese culture, appear to float in a suspended realm between urban reality and poetic imagination.
Deep blue forms inserted within the red structure introduce a visual breath, creating a dialogue between energy and inner calm.
Stylized flowers and drifting clouds, recurring signatures in Ando’s visual universe, soften the monumental geometry of the LOVE motif with a dreamlike dimension.
The composition evokes an encounter between Shinjuku’s emotional turbulence and a search for intimate serenity within urban chaos.
Ando does not merely depict a universal symbol; he reinterprets it through a Japanese sensibility shaped by spirituality and pop aesthetics.
The fish become metaphors for human trajectories navigating the complex currents of contemporary life.
The intense red acts as an emotional veil, expressing the passion, desire, and vitality inherent to Tokyo’s metropolitan pulse.
Subtle color transitions reveal Ando’s painterly mastery, oscillating between graphic flatness and atmospheric nuance.
The artist constructs a space in which viewers oscillate between visual attraction and symbolic contemplation.
The series questions how love survives in a world shaped by speed, consumption, and constant urban transformation.
The softness of the koi contrasts with geometric rigidity, illustrating the fragile balance between emotion and social structure.
Here, Ando’s artistic psychology emerges, caught between fascination for urban energy and nostalgia for natural harmony.
Each element appears to drift like a memory within contemporary Japanese collective consciousness.
Ando’s Neo-Pop language renders the work immediately accessible while revealing enduring conceptual depth.
The canvas becomes a bridge between global pop culture and traditional Japanese iconography.
For collectors, the work offers a rare synthesis of graphic power and emotional resonance.
Its visual and symbolic impact positions it as a major piece within the artist’s recent evolution.
Acquiring Kohaku Reverie : Vermilion Veil thus represents an exceptional opportunity to own a work where love, memory, and modernity converge in an intensely contemporary visual symphony.

Presentation

Hiro Ando was born in 1973 on the island of Shikoku in Japan. Hiro Ando started his career as an illustrator in 1995. In 2005 he founded with Saori Nakamishi an artist studio in Tokyo to manage the creation and promotion of other young neo-pop artists who express their own popular culture in their creations. Today the studio "Crazynoodles" has ten artists.

Hiro Ando is a versatile artist. He works in oil on canvas, digital media or video. His technique consists of making several sketches before painting on canvas. The painting shapes itself and emerges in the streets of Tokyo at night, and combines lots of colors and graphics. Hiro paints dark cityscapes and goldfish all over the canvas.

The marriage of the two subjects makes the whole of the painting dynamic and violent, with a strange feeling of eternity given by the goldfish which recall old Japanese paintings and watercolors. The sculpture is a recent addition to the media used by Ando, who started working on a series of orange, green sculptures ... inspired by Japanese popular culture. Thus the cat, which is a lucky charm in Japan, like the Maneki-Neko, takes different forms such as the samurai or the sumo wrestler.

The artist translates this theme into a modern style. The shiny and smooth materials, the vivid colors, the brutal but rounded shapes of Hiro Ando's sculptures take us to the world of manga in which the artist's generation grew up. Hiro Ando's art is the meeting between the Meiji era and Manga, he is Shogun in the world of Pokemon, he is traditional Japan seen through the eyes of young people: he certainly belongs to Japanese neo pop art.
