Description
This mesmerizing artwork is a masterclass in abstract expression. Dominated by a monochromatic palette, the piece features a central circular motif reminiscent of a wheel or a manhole cover, rendered with meticulous attention to texture and form. The circle is punctuated by seven smaller, perfectly round voids, creating a sense of depth and movement that draws the observer into its enigmatic core. Surrounding the central motif is an ethereal haze, crafted with delicate gradations of white and shadowy grays, giving the impression of a soft mist or a diffused light source. The subtlety of tones imbues the piece with an almost ghostly aura, invoking a sense of calm and contemplation. The edges of the primary form seem to dissolve into the background, suggesting a transient, ephemeral quality. The artist has employed a technique that allows the interplay of light and dark to create a captivating three-dimensional effect. The spattered and splashed elements around the edges provide a dynamic contrast to the otherwise soft and muted composition, injecting energy and spontaneity into the work. This juxtaposition between the controlled, geometric precision of the central circle and the organic, fluid nature of the surrounding space is both compelling and thought-provoking. Overall, this artwork captivates with its unique fusion of form and atmosphere, offering a contemplative escape into a world where light and shadow dance in harmonious balance. This piece commands attention, inviting viewers to lose themselves in its serene yet powerful presence.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
