Description

This artwork showcases an ethereal abstraction, skillfully executed with a delicate interplay of soft, pastel hues predominantly in shades of blue and violet. The piece exudes a sense of tranquility and fluidity, reminiscent of a dreamy landscape seen through a mist. The background seamlessly blends into the central forms, creating a cohesive yet dynamic composition. Intricate patterns of bubbles and specks of lighter tones add texture and depth, inviting the viewer to explore the intricacies within the amorphous shapes. The artist’s adept use of watercolor techniques is evident in the subtle gradients and the organic flow of pigment across the paper. This approach not only highlights the translucency of watercolors but also imbues the piece with a sense of spontaneity and serendipity. The unique aspect of this work lies in its ambiguity; the forms are undefined, allowing each viewer to interpret the scene through their own lens, be it an underwater vista, a celestial view, or an abstract emotional landscape. This openness to personal interpretation is a testament to the artwork's immersive and evocative quality. The overall effect of the piece is one of serene beauty and quiet contemplation, making it not just a visual delight but also a catalyst for thoughtful reflection. This artwork stands as a prime example of how simplicity and subtlety, when masterfully handled, can yield a profoundly captivating visual experience.

Presentation

My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.

Statement

Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.

My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
