Description
This artwork, a masterful embodiment of abstract expressionism, commands attention through its dynamic use of vibrant blue hues. At first glance, the piece captivates with its fluid composition and the seamless blending of light and dark shades of blue that appear to be in motion. The bold brushstrokes and splashes of color create an impression of spontaneity and raw emotion, hallmark traits of the abstract expressionist movement. Central to the canvas, two dominant, amorphous shapes resembling fluid forms are surrounded by varying intensities of blue, which create an illusion of depth and spatial movement. These central figures appear both interconnected and independent, evoking interpretations that may range from naturalistic to purely abstract impressions. The high contrast between the blue pigment and the white background further accentuates the vibrancy and vitality of the colors, making the central forms pop out and demand the viewer's attention. The white spaces, though seemingly unoccupied, are deliberate and thoughtful, adding balance and providing a necessary void that enhances the drama of the blue pigment. Fine, delicate lines emerge subtly from the edges, suggesting a certain delicacy amidst the bold, energetic strokes—a testament to the artist's control over their medium. There is an undercurrent of fluidity and unpredictability in the splattering technique used, which may symbolize the uncontrollable forces of nature or the subconscious mind. This organic randomness adds to the overall dynamism of the piece, making it not just a visual experience but an emotional one. In conclusion, this artwork is a powerful exploration of color, form, and spontaneity. Its impressive interplay of shades and its bold yet balanced composition make it a noteworthy piece in the realm of abstract expressionism, leaving an indelible impression on any viewer who contemplates its depths.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
