Artwork sold in perfect condition

Artwork location: France

An old country house, faded paintings, a Voltaire armchair. I put the chair down, leaned back and took the photo. I didn't yet know what it was going to become because, very often, the story is revealed later. Reality is then only an aesthetic support to create this feeling of strangeness that I am looking for. Here, the armchair finds itself in a space outside of time, ready to take you away. All that's left to do is sit there and wait...but what? This photo is also available in two other formats, one larger, one smaller.

Collector’s Guide

Imagine it at home

Alain Longeaud, Sit and wait....

Steps :

To talk about my work, you have to go back to the origins.

The 70s, with the beginning of fine photographic art, the meeting with photographers Ralph Gibson and Duane Michals both on the line of demarcation, where reality becomes abstract.

It was therefore towards a creation diametrically opposed to that of conceptual photography that I was moving towards, a creation where there is no difference between the imaginary and reality. I decided then that my photos will not show, will not explain, will not question. They will open the doors to emotions.

I like to quote Gerhard Richter: "I obey no intention, no system, no tendency.. I like uncertainty, infinity and permanent insecurity". Bio:

Even though I became interested in music at a very young age through the piano, I always felt like a photographer. Always a matter of perspective. First more on the side of black and white than color.

The meeting with Helmut Newton, whose assistant I was, opened the doors to the world of fashion where I made a career working for the main French and Italian fashion magazines.

Today visual artist photography has replaced fashion and it is no longer in magazines but in French and foreign galleries that my work is exhibited.
