Description
This striking artwork features a surreal figure enveloped in a flowing, vibrant red robe that dramatically merges into an orange flame-like formation instead of a head. Positioned on an ornate stone staircase, the scene evokes a sense of mystery and intrigue, inviting the viewer into a dreamlike realm. The background showcases a twilight sky, framed by towering, dark tree silhouettes that contrast sharply with the bold colors of the figure. The juxtaposition of the classical architectural elements with the avant-garde subject creates a tension that is both captivating and unsettling. The fusion of human and abstract elements challenges traditional perceptions of identity and presence, making this piece a memorable exploration of form and color. The artwork's bold color palette and imaginative composition set it apart as a unique expression of surrealist art.
Presentation
Sammy Slabbinck (°1977 Belgium) renders dynamic combining found imagery with contemporary compositional styles.
The images are cut up into pieces and redistributed, playing with exaggeration, scale and distortion.
Other times, the images are placed in a reverse context, juxtaposing modern ideals with traditional states of mind. His eye for muted tones and surreal compositions make his work engaging, memorable and sometimes humorous.
