Description
Incognito captures a solitary figure enveloped by large, woven baskets, creating a surreal and compelling visual narrative. The muted color palette emphasizes earthy tones, lending a timeless, almost ethereal quality to the piece. The oversized baskets obscure the figure's identity, evoking themes of anonymity and the burdens carried in daily life. This contrast between human form and the immense scale of the baskets draws attention to the strength and resilience of the unseen individual. The texture of the woven material stands out, highlighting intricate craftsmanship. The minimalistic background ensures full focus remains on the subject, enhancing its enigmatic presence.
Stuart Redler's black and white images use bold contrast to emphasize both structure and emotion.
The tones of his archival prints are beautifully nuanced and rich.
Presentation
Stuart’s interest in far flung (and near) places and cultures has resulted in his unusual photographs of architecture, people and nature. The unexpected and sometimes humorous subject matter, combined with the intense contrasts of black and white and use of strong light, give his pictures their stark and unique style.
As well as appearing in numerous private collections his work is included in the permanent collection at The National Portrait Gallery in London and has also been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum. His work has appeared in publications including The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent on Sunday, Conde Nast Traveller and House & Garden.
Stuart has received a number of awards, including six from The Association of Photographers who awarded him Gold for his portfolio of architectural images. He has also received awards from Graphis, PDN and Communication Arts.
