Description
In 985, Tony Potts captures a quiet yet deeply expressive street moment, rendered in his signature black-and-white style. A woman bends gently toward a small dog, their interaction framed by an urban backdrop that dissolves into a soft blur. The scene feels spontaneous and intimate, celebrating a fleeting exchange of tenderness within the everyday rhythm of the city.
Potts' composition highlights the elegance of gesture and silhouette: the curve of the figure, the pleated skirt in motion, and the dog's attentive posture create a subtle choreography between human and animal. The shallow depth of field draws the viewer into the emotional centre of the image, allowing the surrounding architecture to fade into the atmosphere rather than distract.
Balancing documentary sensitivity with a refined fashion sensibility, evokes nostalgia, warmth, and understated sophistication — a timeless photographic work that speaks to connection, grace, and the beauty of ordinary encounters.

Presentation
Tony's signature photographic style encompasses movement in the pursuit of capturing moments of sensuality that reveal the soul. He is adept at creating conditions revealing a person's true nature, capturing compelling, stirring and enduring images that reveal the sensuality in us all.
Tony Potts has been associated with a camera lens and fashion in one way or another all his life. His mother, Judy Barraclough, was a world-famous model of the 1950s & 60s, and his Uncle David Potts was one of Australia's best-known Time/Life photographers of the 1940s & 50s.
Influenced by a world of fashion and photography as a child, Tony's career started as a camera assistant to the creative director and main photographer of Vogue Australia, whilst also studying photography at the Australian Centre of Photography when he quit after his first year at Sydney University doing a science-based degree.
Tony left Australia in 1975 for Europe and succeeded as an editorial model working with world-renowned fashion photographers such as Helmut Newton (French Vogue), Denise Piel, Patrick Demarchelier, Albert Watson, Toscani and many others. He appeared in many fashion magazines, including Harpers Bazaar and Vogue Magazines worldwide, including Australian, British, German and Italian Vogue, whilst living for 2 to 3 years at a time in London, Paris and New York.
Returning to Australia in 1981 with clarity and determination to interpret and distil the essence of life into his photography, Tony was soon shooting editorial fashion for all the leading contemporary Australian fashion designers and magazines, including Vogue and Harpers.
Tony's main focus these days is the art world of photography and the management of his 40-year archive, offering limited editions of his past and present work, with a collection of single edition vintage prints on show. His best-known images hang in prestigious private collections in Australia and the US. He is known for his B&W nudes and fashion editorial, particularly his Australian work in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.
