Description
Movement takes hold of the city. A red tram crosses the image like a streak of color in a blurred setting. This photograph plays with superposition. Time dilates. Architectural lines stretch into vertical filaments.
The gaze oscillates between recognition and abstraction. The urban structure becomes a graphic grid. The bright red of the vehicle anchors the composition, creating a sharp contrast with the neutral and golden tones of the background.
Here, the artist captures the essence of the city's flow. Speed transforms the landscape into a layered visual experience. Reality fragments to make way for a sensation of gliding.
The image is presented as an art print produced in 2022. This technical approach emphasizes the precision of the blur and the depth of the urban textures.
Presentation
"Jacob Gils (b. 1963, Denmark) is a Copenhagen-based photographer known for his distinctive approach to capturing landscapes, architecture, and cityscapes through multiple exposures. His work explores the balance between structure and abstraction, inviting viewers into a layered visual experience where time and movement merge.
Gils graduated from The Copenhagen School of Photography in 1990 and his art has gained recognition in the form of prizes at the PRIX DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE PARIS (PX3) in 2012 and 2015. He has exhibited in solo and group shows across the globe and his works are represented in the Danish Royal Collection, Nanjing Art Museum, China and at Maersk in Denmark as well as in private collections all over Europe, and in USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Australia.
In his acclaimed Portraits of Trees series, Gils positions trees as powerful individual beings as well as symbols of resilience, fragility, and ecological urgency. The works reveal both the majesty and vulnerability of nature, subtly engaging with themes of climate change, environmental loss, and humankind's complex relationship to the natural world."
