Description
Giant is a contemporary artwork created by Peter Blake in 1978. Woodblock print on Japanese paper, blind stamp Waddington Graphics, London. Plate size: 15.5 x 13 cm Mounted in a mat and framed behind glass (unopened): 48.5 x 42 x 2 cm. Hand-signed lower right, numbered "A/P 10/30" lower left and with dedication.
Presentation
Often referred to as the Godfather of British Pop Art, Sir Peter Blake was born in 1932 in Dartford, Kent. He attended the Royal Collage of Art and in 1961 was awarded the John Moores junior art award for his work Self Portrait with Badges.
Combining images of pop culture and fine art, Peter Blake's collages and paintings include imagery from advertisements, entertainment, wrestlers and the circus. Peter Blake became a Royal Academian in 1981, a CBE in 1983 and in 2002 Blake received a knighthood for his services to art. Retrospectives of Blake's work were held at the Tate in 1983 and Tate Liverpool in 2008.
